Recently, I have been thrown into Himawari Souya’s world and have literally gone through all her works (aside from the hard-core shouta ones). I already introduced the Iromachi series earlier and this time, I shall introduce a completely different series: Otonari & Hiraga brothers series. It’s a series with three books: Koufuku no Susume, Kimi no Ondo, & Aruku Omoi. These three books feature two couples: Otonari Makoto and Hiraga Yukiharu as well as Otonari Minori and Hiraga Mizumo. Since I like Minori and Mizumo much more, I shall focus my review on this couple instead.
| The Hiraga family is extremely poor because the parents vanished, abandoning their children. The grandfather could only take care of one child - the oldest Yukiharu and the other children were left to fend for themselves. Luckily for the Hiraga family, Otonari’s father was Hiraga’s father’s friend and so he rented out the place for the Hiraga brothers to live as well as helped them out. Although the eldest child was Yukiharu, he was living with his grandfather and knew none of the existence of his family until the day when his grandfather passed away. He thought he would be left alone in the world but soon he found out he had six younger brothers and his parents were still alive. When he came back to join his younger brothers, he found himself the focus of attention of the eldest children of the Otonari family - Otonari Makoto. Though he had no memory, Makoto said they used to play as children and he even had photo of Yukiharu! It’s a struggle to look after his brothers and at the same time also trying to keep Makoto from hugging him. However, in a way Yukiharu was happy because he was not alone in this world. | | Kimi no Ondo is the story between Minori and Mizumo. While Yukiharu was living happily with his grandfather, he did not realize his next brother, Mizumo had to work like mad to keep the family running. Since they were extremely poor and Mizumo was stubborn and did not want to receive financial help from the Otonari family because he already had caused them enough trouble, he resorted to shoplifting. He was caught and caused some trouble and on the surface, he seemed to stop. Minori (Makoto’s younger identical twin brother) offered to help and said Mizumo could pay him back little by little later on. Mizumo though managed to repay the sum in 2 years. He managed through prostitution. He was only in fifth grade (like 10-11?) when he started selling his body and that lasted into middle school till Minori found out when he saw Mizumo being bound to the bed by the P.E. teacher. Minori then said he would buy Mizumo instead and would pay to have sex with him. At first, he was just doing this because he did not want Mizumo to continue prostitution but soon he fell in love with Mizumo - so much that he became upset because he knew his love was one-sided and for Mizumo, he was no more than a customer. The truth though was that Mizumo also fell in love with Minori but he did not quite understand it. Yet, when he heard a girl had confessed to Minori and that Minori might get a girlfriend, he was upset and he started acting strangely. Finally, the tension built up and the two quarreled and Minori went back to the girl he just rejected and started going out with her. Mizumo also started going back to prostitution but neither could sleep with another person again. In the end, their feelings seemed to cross and they ended up being a couple instead of customer and prostitute. | The third book (and last in the series) Aruku Omoi still focuses on Makoto and Yukiharu though we also get to see Minori and Mizumo. In Koufuku no Susume, though Yukihara and Makoto seemed to become good friends, Makoto treated the relationship as a romantic one while Yukihara treated it as a normal relationship. That’s because so far Yukihara had been straight and had girlfriends like other normal boys. It would be a bit difficult for Yukihara to suddenly enter into a homosexual relationship. Also, he did not quite understand his feelings, not until an "accident" happened. When Mizumo fell ill with a fever (39.3), he mistook Makoto as Minori (they’re identical twins after all and he was ill) and he kissed Makoto accidentally. Yukihara was very shaken by the scene and that’s when he started to feel puzzled at his own feelings for Makoto. | Eventually, the two’s feelings crossed and they finally had their first sex together (though with strange advice (?) from their highly experienced younger brothers ). Minori and Mizumo also got along well and gradually, Mizumo seemed to be able to depend on Minori (?)… or maybe.

I shall review it via the two storylines rather than the timeline of the drama CD. Shion (CV: Yamaguchi Kappei) quiet boy who was invalid and confined to bed. He prayed to God and his prayers were answered as he was healed. However, he discovered that there were two scars on his palm and those were known as the "sacred scars". Seems like whoever possesed these scars would be special and resepected. However, in reality, Shion finds himself more "feared" by his fellow classmates, which made him feel quite lonely. One night, he happened to meet Wong (CV: Ishikawa Hideo) while he was returning to his room from confession. Wong just visited the room of his master - Emilio (CV: Nojima Kenji). Since students were not permitted to leave their room after sleeping time, Wong reported to the president of the student dormitory and Shion was scolded. As a result, Shion was angry at Wong but the latter unconsciously said that if Shion were afraid, he could sleep with him at night and Shion really came to his room. Since then the two slept together (in a non-ecchi way). Graduallly, Shion and Wong were comfortable with each other but their relationship could not progress "further" because Shion’s scars would become painful. At the same time, a classmate was aiming to kill Shion because he wanted to be the chosen one. Of course, Wong came in time to save Shion and the two finally moved to the final step. The second story was between Emilio, the good-for-nothing child of a wealthy man. Wong was sent to accompany Emilio in the school as a bodyguard (though he served for "other" purposes as well). Emilio is very seductive and has no sense of decency in his dictionary. Consequently, he would seduce anyone, including the poor servant of god - the Priest (CV: Morikawa Toshiyuki). Pardon me but I really don’t want to go into the details ^^;;. Step by step, Emilio led the father onto the path of "sin" but surprisingly, in the end, the father had to leave but he promised to wait for Emilio to graduate (and then what? >v<) and in the meantime, they have telephone sex a long distance relationship.

The story "Kirai Naranai dene" and "Akuma no Ronrigaku" are actually linked together and span across 3 CDs. In this synopsis, I will cover "Akuma" story that is captured in the second half of the second CD and the third CD. The relationship between Maki (CV: Midorikawa Hikaru) and Souhei (CV: Hoshi Souichirou) frustrated Taishi (CV: Suzumura Kenichi) because he did not think it is right to be "homo" and he detests all homosexual relationships. However, while his brain rejects it, his heart seems to be drifting in the other direction as he is less capable of blocking the charm of his friend Touichirou (CV: Yusa Kouji). This gradually emerged as Touichirou teased Souhei for going to a honeymoon with Maki but Taishi did not react with his usual "this leads to the end of the world" argument. The phone then rang and the "ero homo" Ijuin (CV: Okiayu Ryuutarou), without even greeting started to plunge into his egoistic and arrogant dialogue ^^;;. This pissed Taishi (who picked up Touichirou’s phone as the latter fled from the aftermath of teasing the short-tempered and violent Souhei) to no end and of course he just scolded Ijiun and hung up.
However, this was only the beginning as the next day, Taishi found himself approached by a strange kid from the same school as Ijiun by the name Otowa (CV: Matsuno Taiki). The kid tried to persuade then threatended (by saying they got Touichirou) Taishi to follow him. Of course, innocent as Taishi, he would follow and thus he was forced into the "game" set by the Ijiun. Basically, in this game, they had to catch all the members before 9 p.m. or they would lose the match. Touichirou was quick to first access the school’s database and found some secrets in drive F. He then forced out the password (with a kiss ^^;;) from one of the team members and copied the information to a MO disk, which he entrusted to Taishi. In the meantime, Otowa made an announcement that he wanted people to leave Taishi to him as he wanted Taishi. While the two were on the run, Taishi told Touichirou about how his mother once said his face was beautiful and reprimanded him for hurting such a beautiful face. He got his looks from his father, who was a womanizer (not surprising with such a gorgeous appearance ^^;;). While Taishi was reflecting on how his mom praised his face, he found Touichirou staring at his face and said he is beautiful. (This is probably one of the best moments in the whole drama). Then, Otowa caught up with them and Taishi sacrificed himself to save Touichirou. Taishi was caught and beaten up by Otowa (probably more were about to happen had Ijiun not stopped Otowa). In the meantime, someone announced through the school’s broadcasting system that Touichirou was unconscious and probably dead. This attracted everyone’s attention to the place where Touichirou was. However, when they arrived, it was pitch black! Turned out that Touichirou set a trick to capture Ijiun and his members. So, in the end, Touichirou won the game (and the heart of Taishi) as well. His reward? A wonderful night in bed with Taishi and more chances to tease this guy who still seems to believe that homosexuality leads to the end of the world.

The story "Kirai Naranai dene" and "Akuma no Ronrigaku" are actually linked together and span across 3 CDs. In this synopsis, I will cover "Kirai" story that is captured in the first CD and half of the second CD. Kugami Souhei (CV: Hoshi Souichirou) is tall and actually quite handsome but he has extremely low self-confidence and short temper. He can be very violent and destructive when he is pissed off. He is in love with the president of the archery club Maki Keisuke (CV: Midorikawa Hikaru) but he learns that Maki already has someone he loves. Of course, with his low level of confidence, he did not even consider that he could the one Maki likes. Consequently, he is quite upset and he talks to his good friends - Kashiwagi Touichirou (CV: Yusa Kouji) and Kishima Taishi (CV: Suzumura Kenichi). Touichirou is the composed and slightly kichiku megane while Taishi is energetic and has a very beautiful face. Taishi loves women and despise all homosexual actions. Therefore, he often labels Souhei’s love for Maki as the catalyst to "the end of human race" and usually, Touichirou has to step forward and stop Taishi. At the broadcast club where Souhei hosts a radio show, he always receives "blue no binsen" or letters writen in blue notepad. The anonymous author of the letter is puzzled over his love for a classmate but he is worried the reaction he might receive if he let his love be known. <spoiler> Of course, the writer is Maki and the one he has a crush on is Souhei but both don’t know and go around in circles until track 8 (the confession) </spoiler>. Later, even though the feelings of the two guys finally reached each other, it’s not over because Souhei is still often attacked by other guys and so Maki, his prince, always comes to rescue and finally the two manage to become lovers. Unfortunately, things do not stop there. Souhei’s brother Kuga Tomoya (CV: Miyata Kouki) seems to be hugging onto Maki all the time and disturbs Souhei and Maki’s date. On top of that, he says he loves his own face a lot and has a lot of confidence (even though Souhei and Tomoya looks really alike). Souhei is upset and worse, when he takes an umbrella to Tomoya, he notices Tomoya is with Maki. Just earlier, Maki invited him to a date but suddenly cancelled it. Souhei thought Maki cancelled it because he wanted to go out with Tomoya instead. Depressed and upset, Souhei sank to the bottom point of his life. Fortunately, he discovered later that Maki was not really in love with Tomoya. Turned out it was Tomoya who has a serious brother complex and challenged Maki to a duel to a race using his favorite sport - skateboarding. However, Maki was able to beat Tomoya and forced the latter to accept his relationship with Souhei.
